Fruits such as mangos, papayas, oranges, bananas, pineapples, strawberries and peaches grow exceptionally well in Niassa. It is possible to buy good quality fruits on big quantities on the market during the season. Fruit juice can be made from bad quality cheap fruits as long as they are ripe and free of diseases.
Market opportunities
There are little market opportunities in the south of Mozambique. To sell big quantities, juice has to be sold in South Africa or overseas. The competition in juice production is high and it is only profitable to produce in large quantities. A few big global companies dominate the production. The production of tropical fruits for juice is not profitable. Only the export of fresh fruits, make it worse to start with a commercial plantation.
